Sampling New Braunfels’ German Flavor
May 6, 2021
New Braunfels was the first Texas colony of German immigrants. The first German settlers arrived in 1845. With a rich German history that carries on to this day, it’s pretty easy to sample some excellent German food while staying at Treeside RV Resort.
The Alpine Haus
This family-owned German restaurant prepares its authentic old-world recipes to order. That means you may not be served as fast as some restaurants. But rest assured, they also provide a great Gemutlichkeit (ambiance). Many reviews say this restaurant offers some of the best German food in Central Texas.

Krause’s Cafe and Biergarten
If you are looking to grab a beer and enjoy a bit of German food with a Texas flair, look no further than Krause’s Cafe. The restaurant initially opened in 1938 and was a popular establishment in the town for years. Unfortunately, the original owners had to close the restaurant in the 1990s. Recognizing the historical significance of the cafe, the current owners have reimagined the fun atmosphere and reopened Krause’s Cafe in 2016.
Their Biergarten is a sight to behold as the steel-domed roof is modeled after the Hofbräuhaus beer hall in Munich. It has one of the most extensive tap walls in New Braunfels, which serves craft beers and local favorites.

Uwe’s Bakery & Deli
After enjoying all the great German food, it may be time to pick up some German pastries. Uwe’s Bakery & Deli’s website states they are the only German bakery in town. Uwe Theis is a German Master Baker and Pastry Chef who started baking around 1986 in Münsterappel, Germany. Uwe and his wife Heather serve fresh German pastries and tasty sandwiches without additives, stretchers, or fillers.
