Cross the Bridge to Another World at Natural Bridge Caverns
May 27, 2021
“Natural Bridge Caverns is the most extensive cavern within the San Antonio area and one of the largest caverns within the state of Texas, making it one of the top attractions in Texas.”
Named for the 60-foot natural limestone bridge that extends over the cavern’s entrance, the Natural Bridge Caverns were discovered by four college students in 1960. Since their initial underground exploration, the cavern has evolved into an adventure destination people all around the world can experience, above and below the surface.
It’s incredible to learn that the intricate, delicate formations that flank the winding trails of the Natural Bridge Caverns were a result of single droplets of water over time. Tour guides take visitors 180 feet below the Earth to view ancient formations centuries in the making and still growing today. These structures include stalagmites, stalactites, flowstones, chandeliers, and soda straws.
The cavern is a constant 70 degrees with a humidity of 99%, making it feel more like 80 degrees. Comfortable walking shoes with good traction are recommended.
The following cavern tours are offered:
The adventures don’t cease above the surface. On the contrary, guests to the Natural Bridge Caverns can opt for fun in the sun as well. Whether it’s traversing a rope course 60 feet in the air, scrambling through a 5,000 square foot outdoor maze, or panning for treasure, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy.
Of course, at some point, your crew will work up an appetite and possible shopitite. Don’t fret! There are plenty of snack and meal options. And even more choices in the way of souvenir shopping.
