The New Braunfels Burger Bucket List

June 3, 2022

New Braunfels has no shortage of fantastic burger joints. There’s just too many to mention, so we will pare it down to the five best! We invite you to try them all, and if there’s a burger joint in town you feel should be on the list, let us know!

Texas Bistro

Ready for a party in your mouth? The Jalapeno Bacon Burger at Texas Bistro is the definition of a craft burger. It all begins with cream cheese exploding with flavor, and infused with jalapeno, bacon, onion, and garlic. Topped with pickled onion and served in between a bun toasted with love and a smear of garlic aioli. Is your mouth watering yet? The beef is ground in-house and hand-formed, making this burger a true standout.

Texas Bistro offers a casual meal in a relaxing atmosphere, great for a family outing, a romantic date, or for drinks at the bar. Their dog-friendly patio is the best spot to hang out with the pooch and enjoy the weather.

Muck & Fuss Craft Beer and Burgers

Located smack dab in the heart of historic downtown, this favorite neighborhood spot offers a creative, chef-inspired menu that includes a breakfast burger. Imagine a hash brown patty topped with Cajun dill bearnaise sauce, American cheese, bacon, tomato, and a fried egg. Then there’s the Aloha Berger, which features grilled pineapple relish, honey chili sauce, red cabbage slaw, and sweet and spicy mayo.

Tin Top Burgers & Beer

Just steps away from Schlitterbahn Waterpark and the Comal River, this joint served up hand-crafted burgers, tater tots, fries, and golden onion rings designed to melt in your mouth.

Our pick is the Hatch Green Chili Burger. The chilis are picked around autumn every year and quickly frozen to preserve their spicy flavor. Pork is combined with grass-fed, Texas beef to add the right touch of juicy. Crispy raw onion, bacon, some pepper jack cheese, and a flavorful southwest mayo finish out this savory, grilled burger. And for dessert? Small-batch ice cream is served on site at Rhea’s Ice Cream.

Phoenix Saloon

This is a downtown bar with a friendly atmosphere, live music, and relaxing vibes. Try the Blue Burger, perhaps one of the more unique cheeseburgers in New Braunfels. Blue cheese crumbles are incorporated into the hand-formed patty. The technique adds a richness without overpowering the classic flavor of the burger.

Roasted garlic and other seasonings are added to the ½ pound patties before they’re cooked to perfection on the grill. Add some applewood bacon, along with pickles, onion, lettuce, tomato, and put into a New World Bakery bun. There is a secret sauce and we won’t tell you all the ingredients, but let’s just say it involves blue cheese.

Freiheit Country Store

This is a popular place with the locals and has been around for over 100 years! They have a large seating area, and the sides are a la carte, so you can mix and match your delectable burger meal. Between 11am – 3pm, you can get a burger and tots or made-from-scratch fries for 8 bucks. The burgers are fat and juicy with as many or as few fixins’ as you want, and their buns come fresh from Naegelin’s Bakery downtown. Their extended menu includes brats, chicken fried steak, and other home-style dishes. Delicious pie and live music on the weekends round out the local experience.
